Serbian striker Luka Jovic left Real Madrid on Thursday to re-join Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on a six-month loan.

The move sees Jovic leaving Madrid just 15 months after Eintracht sold him to the La Liga side for a reported $70 million. Both clubs confirmed the deal on their social media.

Jovic secured a transfer to Los Blancos after a productive 2018-19 campaign with Frankfurt that saw him score 27 goals and contribute with seven assists in 48 games. He was expected to be one of Real’s main options up front for years to come at the time but failed to live up to the hype.

In his first season in Spain, Luka Jovic struggled to get accustomed to his new surroundings and netted just twice in 27 games. This caused him to fall down the pecking order for 2020-21, and the 23-year-old player got to play just 208 scoreless minutes since the season began.

Real Madrid now hopes that a return to a familiar league will help Jovic re-discover his confidence and goalscoring talent. If this ends up being the case, the Spanish club might give the Serbian another chance next season as the loan deal with Eintracht doesn’t include a purchase option.
