Encouraged by the work that Borussia Dortmund did with developing Algerian back Achraf Hakimi, Real Madrid decided to send them another promising youngster. The La Liga champions announced on Wednesday that they had sent Brazilian attacking midfielder Reiner Jesus to Borussia on a two-year loan.

The Bundesliga side also confirmed the deal on their social media.

“I am happy to be with BVB,” said Jesus upon his arrival to Germany. “I want to learn a lot here, play a lot, and help the team to be successful. I hope that we have many happy moments together.”

Jesus joined Real from Flamengo earlier this year in a transfer worth around $35 million. So far, the 18-year-old midfielder played three games for the club’s reserves Castilla while scoring two goals. He wasn’t in consideration for the first team, as Real already has three non-EU players on their squad.

However, he should get more chances to play in Germany, as Jesus joins Borussia’s exciting young core, which includes promising striker Erling Haaland, star winger Jadon Sancho, as well as talented newcomer Jude Bellingham.

“Our attack looks like a high school now!” said Borussia’s head coach Lucien Favre. “From what I’ve seen, he’s really good in attack and at finishing. At 18 he can still improve a lot.”

Jesus spent his youth career with Vasco da Gama, Botafogo, and Fluminense before settling with Flamengo in 2014. He made 14 senior appearances while in Brazil, scoring six goals in the process.
