Real Madrid and Brazil legend Marcelo has returned to Brazilian side Fluminense 17 years after leaving his home to join the Spanish giants. Marcelo signed a two-year deal with Fluminense after terminating his contract with the Greek club Olympiacos.
Over 30,000 fans showed up to the Maracana stadium on Friday night to greet Marcelo as he was unveiled as a Fluminense player. “It’s the best moment of my life, I am coming home. Thank you all!”, Marcelo announced to the crowd.
“I am very, very, very happy! It’s a moment that I have always dreamed of, to be here with you. I have other dreams as well, which were to wear Fluminense’s jersey again, feel like a warrior again and fight for all trophies. I am sure we will have a wonderful year.”
Marcelo’s contract, which will see him remain at the club until December 2024, comes with an option to extend for another season. Marcelo spent 15 years at Real Madrid, winning 25 trophies and lifting five Champions Leagues and six La Ligas.
