After missing out on star striker Kylian Mbappe to Santiago Bernabeu, La Liga champions Real Madrid turned their focus to other targets. According to multiple reports, Real is now close to finalizing a deal for Monaco’s midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

Tchouameni is considered one of the best young players in Europe. In recent months, the 22-year-old player has been monitored by several big European clubs, including Liverpool. However, the player wants to play for Real, which proved to be a determining factor in his transfer saga.

Monaco and Real now need to agree on a transfer fee to wrap the deal. According to soccer insider Fabrizio Romano, the fee “will be way more than €50 million.” ESPN reports a figure close to €80 million.

Aurelien Tchouameni spent the majority of his youth career with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux. He made his professional debut in 2018 and played 37 games for the club before securing a transfer to Monaco midway through the 2019-20 campaign. Tchouameni has nine goals and seven assists in 95 appearances in Monaco jersey.

It didn’t take long for Tchouameni’s great performances to capture the attention of Didier Deschamps, head coach of France’s senior team. He made his debut in late 2021 and has since been indispensable for the national side.
