The La Liga giants Real Madrid’s efforts to rejuvenate their midfield have reportedly led them to Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. According to influential Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Real sees Guimaraes as a perfect fit for their team and is expected to reach out to Newcastle United soon in order to test his availability.
Real focused on retooling their aging midfield this past summer, letting veteran Casemiro make a switch to Manchester United and spending €80 million on his replacement in Aurélien Tchouaméni. But with Luka Modric being out of contract in the summer and Toni Kroos turning 33 in January, the Spanish club is eager to make more additions.
Borussia Dortmund’s highly-rated teenager Jude Bellingham remains Real’s preferred target, but his €150 million price tag might be too much even for them. While Guimaraes is six years older than Bellingham, he is also a lot more affordable, making him a great alternative for the club.
However, it is unclear whether Newcastle would be interested in selling. The club’s new Saudi Arabia owners seem to have money to spare and might not be willing to part ways with one of their stars. Guimaraes is in fine form so far in 2022-23, scoring four goals and adding three assists in 24 games.
