Real Madrid reclaimed La Liga title after three years. Los Merengues have been crowned champions on Thursday night thanks to a 2-1 win against Villareal.

Real entered the game needing just one point to secure the trophy, but they went for all three. Karim Benzema scored the first goal of the game in the 29′ minute to give Real the lead and lay the groundwork for title celebration. Benzema then scored again in 77′ minute from a penalty kick and removed all doubts about the best team in Spain in the 2019/20 season.

Villareal tried to start a comeback with Iborra’s goal in the 83′ minute, but that was all they managed to do until the final whistle.

As it turned, Real Madrid would have won the title even if they lost the match against Villareal. This was thanks to the fact that their bitter rivals and closest followers Barcelona surprisingly lost to Osasuna.

“This is one of the best days in my life professionally,” said Real’s head coach Zinedine Zidane. “This is a tremendous feeling because what these players have done is incredible. I am lost for words because I am too emotional.”

This was the 34th title for Real in the history of Spanish domestic competition and their first since 2016/17.

“It has been a strange season after everything that has happened,” said captain Sergio Ramos. “After the confinement we knew that we had to win every match to clinch the title. There was no margin for error.”

Ben loves sports so much but prefers watching other people do it. He prefers not to share what teams he's supporting but he is willing to admit that Lebron James is, in fact, the king.
