AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is set to join UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid, multiple reports have confirmed. The 22-year-old player is expected to sign a five-year deal with Los Blancos to the value of €80 million along with add-ons.
Tchouameni’s move to the Spanish capital comes after the player was linked with the likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain throughout the season. According to several media outlets, PSG star Kylian Mbappe attempted to convince Tchouameni to join the Ligue 1 champions however the rising star remained set on joining Real Madrid.
While Real Madrid’s move for Tchouameni has long been in the pipeline, the potential deal was delayed due to the Spanish treasury’s view of the Principality of Monaco as a tax haven. Because of this view, Monaco are required to pay 24% tax on top of the €60 million profit they expect to generate from the deal.
Tchouameni’s signature is of top priority for Real Madrid, with manager Carlo Ancelotti prioritizing the signing of a new defensive midfielder this summer.
The Champions League and La Liga winners have been active during the current transfer window, signing ex-Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer.
