The Cleveland Guardians are currently searching for a new manager after Terry Francona’s exit, but it seems they won’t find one in Tampa Bay.

Speaking at a news conference on Monday, the Rays’ manager, Kevin Cash, said that he isn’t interested in leaving for the Guardians despite a series of rumors linking him with the job.

“I’m very happy here,” Cash said when asked about Cleveland. “I’m under contract here and looking forward to next year, for sure.”

The Guardians reportedly identified Cash as the primary target for their managerial vacancy, but it appears they will now have to look elsewhere. The list of other candidates includes ex-Los Angeles Angels manager Joe Maddon, Milwaukee Brewers’ manager Craig Counsell and Guardians’ bench coach DeMarlo Hale.

Kevin Cash started his coaching career with the Guardians, where he served under Francona as a bullpen coach between 2013 and 2014. After two years in Cleveland, Cash was hired by the Rays to be their next manager.

During his time with the Rays, Cash has compiled a 739-617 managerial record. He made the postseason in each of the past five seasons while leading the franchise to a World Series appearance in 2020. Under Cash, Tampa Bay won two AL East division titles as well.
