After securing the No. 1 seed in the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens decided to address the status of veteran nose tackle Michael Pierce. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Ravens locked Pierce to a new two-year extension.
Pierce, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, will reportedly earn $7.5 million in the next two seasons. The 31-year-old player has a base salary of $1.16 million in 2023.
After being limited to just three games last season by injuries, Pierce bounced back in a big way this season. He started all 16 games, making 26 tackles, 1.0 sacks, two pass deflections, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.
After securing that Pierce remains on the team for a couple of more years, the Ravens will now likely try to do the same with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Justin Madubuike. The Texas A&M product has been enjoying a breakthrough season that includes 54 tackles, 13.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles, all career-highs. Madubuike is set to enter unrestricted free agency after the 2023 campaign.
The Baltimore Ravens are at 13-3 entering the final game of the regular season. With nothing to play for, the Ravens are expected to rest most of their starters for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
