The Baltimore Ravens announced on Friday that they have signed Pro Bowl defensive tackle Justin Madubuike to a four-year new contract. The news came several days after the Ravens placed a franchise tag on Madubuike to prevent him from hitting the free agency.

Madubuike had his best season as a pro in 2023, leading the Ravens with 13.0 sacks. He also had 56 tackles, 33 QB hits, and one forced fumble in 17 games.

“Justin is one of the best defensive tackles in the entire NFL and a cornerstone on our defense,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement. “This is a great way to start the new league year!”

The Ravens didn’t disclose the financial terms of the agreement. However, ESPN reports that Madubuike’s deal is worth $98 million and includes $75.5 million in guaranteed money. This would make it a record deal for a defensive tackle in NFL history. Additionally, Madubuike’s average annual salary is only second to the $31.6 million that Los Angeles Rams’ start DT Aaron Donald earns yearly.

Resigning Madubuike ensures that the Ravens keep one of their best defensive players on the roster for years to come. The move will also help the franchise get additional cap space ahead of the free agency opening next week.
