Toronto Raptors shooting guard RJ Barrett is set to be sidelined for the remainder of the season and potentially longer as a result of a right acromioclavicular joint sprain, the team announced. Barrett suffered this shoulder injury during the Raptors’ 125-98 preseason victory over the Washington Wizards on Sunday.
Barrett suffered the injury late in the second quarter, at which point he immediately made his way to the sidelines and headed to the locker room for further evaluation. Before going off injured, the 24-year-old posted 7-for-10 in 14 minutes of play, scoring 17 points in the process.
In their announcement of Barrett’s injury, the Raptors confirmed that the player’s status would be updated after the preseason concludes. Toronto’s regular season gets underway on October 23, when they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Scotiabank Arena. The third overall pick in the 2019 draft, Barrett enjoyed a career-high performance last season, averaging 20.2 points, 3.3 assists, and 5.4 rebounds while also playing for Team Canada at this year’s Summer Olympics.
