Oakland Raiders’ Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie announced his retirement from the NFL after eleven years as a professional cornerback.

“Today I retire, today my NFL journey ends, and I thank God for keeping me all these years,” Cromartie said through an Instagram post. “A kid with one kid and no college offers lasted 11 years in the NFL. I played in Super Bowls, pro bowls, n did many more in this league. I’m at peace with my decision. Y’all may not understand and that’s kool!!! I wanna thank everyone for their support.”

Cromartie played for the Raiders seven this games this season but did not appear in Sunday’s loss to the Colts. He had made eight tackles and forced one fumble in the seven appearances. Before joining Oakland, the 32-year-old had played for the New York Giants, the Eagles, Denver Broncos and the Arizona Cardinals.

He joined the NFL in 2008 as a round one draft pick for the Cardinals. He went on to record 30 interceptions. He also appeared in the 2009 and 2015 Pro Bowls, made 447 tackles and seven fumbles.

While he didn’t say exactly why he was retiring, Cromartie made everyone aware of his plans well ahead of Sunday’s game. Earlier in the season, Buffalo Bills’ cornerback Vontae Davis shocked the NFL world by retiring at halftime. The Bills went on to lose that game.
