Chelsea is close to finalizing its first big transfer under new owner Todd Boehly. According to multiple reports, the London club agreed to personal terms with England international Raheem Sterling ahead of his proposed move from Manchester City.

There are still some details left to be ironed out, most notably the fee Chelsea will pay to Man City. The figure is expected to be around £45 million, with add-ons.

In the meantime, Chelsea has hammered out a contract for Sterling that the 27-year-old forward is ready to sign. The details remain under wraps, but the sources report that Sterling will likely become the highest-paid player in the Blues’ locker room.

Manchester City is not thrilled about selling Raheem Sterling, especially to one of their rivals, but the club decided to sanction the deal due to the player’s wish for a new challenge. The reigning Premier League champions are also incentivized to act now as Sterling is entering the final year of his contract and could leave for free next summer if not sold.

On the other hand, Chelsea is willing to make Sterling a lot more prominent part of their squad. He is considered a great fit for manager Thomas Tuchel’s system, and the club believes he will thrive on Stamford Bridge if given the opportunity to operate more freely.

It remains to be seen whether Sterling’s arrival also means the end of Chelsea’s pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star wants to leave Manchester United this summer and has identified Chelsea as one of his preferred destinations. Boehly would also be keen on the move as a way to kick start his reign in an impressive fashion.
