The Miami Dolphins are expected to enter their Thursday Night Football clash against the Buffalo Bills with glaring holes in their backfield.
Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel said that the team’s leading rusher, Raheem Mostert, will be out for the Bills’ game due to a chest injury. His backup, second-year back De’Von Achane, could also be forced to remain on the sidelines while dealing with an ankle injury.
According to McDaniel, Achane’s status for TNF will be determined by the game.
“We’ll see how it plays out,” he said.
Raheem Mostert had a career year in 2023, rushing for 1,012 yards and a league-leading 18 touchdowns on the ground. He had nine yards in a 20-17 win in Week 1 over the Jacksonville Jaguars before being forced to exit the game due to injury.
De’Von Achane, on the other hand, rushed for 800 yards and eight touchdowns last season before being shut down after 11 games due to a knee injury. He managed 24 yards and one TD on 10 attempts in 2024 season opener.
Without Mostert and Achane, the Dolphins would be forced to turn to veteran Jeff Wilson and rookie Jaylen Wright. Wilson has 2,313 rushing yards and 18 rushing TDs since entering the league in 2018, while Wright is yet to get his first taste of NFL action.
