Barcelona failed to defend La Liga title this season, but the team’s manager Quique Setien believes this won’t affect his job. In a recent chat with reporters, Setien said that he expects to coach the Catalan giant in 2020/21 as well.

Setien was appointed as Barca’s manager back in January, taking over from Ernesto Valverde. Although viewed as a great fit for the club at the time due to his coaching style, the Spaniard failed to bring major improvements to the team and is already on the hot seat.

Still, Setien believes he’ll get more time to see through his project.

“Of course, I see myself training Barca next season,” Setien told reporters. “I have already experienced this before.”

Barcelona was on top of La Liga when Setien took over but has since fallen behind Real Madrid due to some poor performances in recent games.

“The reality is that the expectations one has haven’t been achieved, or not yet, but the work done is what must be valued,” he added. “This is what I understand or what I would like to see assessed. Of course, I think about next year’s continuity.”

Club legend Xavi Hernandez was mentioned as the most likely candidate for Barcelona if they decide to move on from Setien after already being linked with the job in January. Xavi, who won eight La Liga titles with Barca as a player, is currently the manager of Qatar side Al-Sadd.
