Since entering the NFL in 2018 as the Indianapolis Colts’ sixth overall pick, Quenton Nelson played every game there was to play. But after spending 51 consecutive games on the field, Nelson will now have to sit one out.
The Colts head coach Frank Reich told reporters on Friday that Nelson won’t be available for the Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins. The All-Pro guard will be kept on the sidelines by a high right ankle sprain that he suffered in last week’s 25-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
“An elite leader, not just an elite player,” Reich said of Nelson via ESPN. “We’ll pick up the energy.”
Reich also added that the team is optimistic about Nelson’s recovery and that the 25-year-old star has good chances of playing in Week 5 when the Colts face the Baltimore Ravens.
With Nelson out, veteran Chris Reed is expected to start for the Colts on Sunday. Reed also took over when Nelson exited the Titans’ game.
Quenton Nelson has been one of the best guards in the league from the moment he stepped into the NFL. In all of his previous three years as a pro, Nelson received First-team All-Pro honors and was selected to the Pro Bowl.
