The football career of 2012 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel didn’t go as planned so far, but it looks like the 25-year-old is working on repairing his mistakes. Manziel recently signed with Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats and is determined to prove he deserves another chance in the NFL. Tiger-Cats June Jones, however, thinks Manziel already deserves to be back in the NFL.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised the last three weeks what a good teammate he is, how smart he is, how he sees the game,” – Jones told ESPN. “He should be playing in the National Football League, and I believe he will when he gets through with us.”

After being taken in the first round of 2014 NFL Draft by Cleveland Browns, Johnny Manziel struggled to make an impact in the league. He played 15 games combined in his first two seasons, before inconsistency and off-field issues caused Browns to release him in March 2016. Since then, Manziel couldn’t find an NFL team that would sign him.

After two years out of football, he decided to take a different route and sign with Hamilton Tiger-Cats in May 2018 as an attempt to revive his career.

Johnny Manziel played in one preseason game for the Tiger-Cats, passing for 88 yards and 1 touchdown and then sat out the season opener against Calgary Stampeders. Still, June Jones has seen enough to think Manziel will get to the place he wants to be.

It’ll take two years,” – said Jones. “They’re [NFL executives, coaches] waiting to see that he’s taken care of his off-the-field problems.

He’s humble. He’s growing up every day.” – he added.
