Mexico and PSV’s young star Hirving Lozano suffered a right knee injury over the weekend and will be out for the remainder of the season. According to ESPN Mexico‘s Mauricio Ymay, this injury also put in danger Lozano’s appearance on the upcoming Gold Cup in June.

Lozano got injured in PSV’s 3-0 win over Willem II and left the game on stretchers. While the initial fear was that the 23-year-old torn his ACL, it appears that the injury might not be that serious after all.

“I’m relieved to know there isn’t any damage to my ligaments, but obviously I’m very sad to not be able to play this decisive stage of the season,” – said Lozano in a statement released by PSV. “My recovery has started. I’m going to do everything possible to be able to be in shape and return to the pitch as soon as possible.”

Hirving Lozano’s is certainly a big blow to PSV’s title hopes, as the club is engaged in a close battle with Ajax for the Eredivisie’s top spot. The two teams have the same number of points with two games left in the season, but Ajax is in the better position thanks to goal difference.

Lozano was crucial for PSV’s good form this season, as he played 30 matches in the league and contributed with 17 goals and eight assists. He also provided four goals in eight matches of the Champions League.
