Austrian star defender David Alaba isn’t lacking interest from top European clubs after his contract extension talks with Bayern Munich fell through. According to several Spanish media outlets, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid emerged as the biggest favorites for landing Alaba, with the French champs having a slight advantage in the pursuit.

The thing that gave the edge to PSG is reportedly their willingness to accept Alaba’s massive wage demands, believed to be north of $20 million annually. Real, on the other hand, is reluctant to go that high considering the financial difficulties the club has gone through due to the coronavirus pandemic.

PSG has one of the most talented attacks in the world of soccer, with Neymar, Mauro Icardi, and Kylian Mbappe running the show upfront. However, they lack consistency in the defense and believe Alaba could fix those issues.

Real’s interest in Alaba, on the other hand, most likely stems from the uncertainty that surrounds the future of their captain and star center back Sergio Ramos. Ramos is on an expiring contract, and the two sides still haven’t managed to reach an agreement about the Spaniard’s stay at Santiago Bernabeu.

David Alaba is set to leave Bayern as a free agent next summer after the Bundesliga giants decided to stop contract extension talks due to the player’s wage requirement. Alaba spent his entire professional career in Munchen, helping the club to win nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues trophies. He made 396 appearances in Bayern jersey in all competitions.
