It didn’t take long for veteran corner James Bradberry to find a new team after being released by the New York Giants earlier this month. Bradberry will play for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022 after agreeing to a one-year deal with the franchise on Wednesday.
The Eagles confirmed the move on their social media. While the team didn’t share the financial terms of the agreement, reports say that Bradberry’s salary is $7.5 million range. He can take his earnings up to $10 million through incentives.
The Giants decision to release Bradberry was all about the finances, as the 28-year-old player was set to count close to $22 million against their cap in 2022. The New York team first tried to trade the Samford product but found the trade market almost non-existent. However, as soon as Bradberry hit the fee agency, close to a dozen teams made a move to land him.
Bradberry’s decision to join the Eagles isn’t surprising as they offer him arguably the clearest path to a major role on defense. Considering Philly’s lack of depth in the secondary, Bradberry is expected to be Week 1 starter and get a chance to have a big year before hitting the free agency again next year.
James Bradberry entered the league in 2016 as the second-round selection by the Carolina Panthers. He spent four years in Carolina before joining the Giants on a three-year, $45 million contract ahead of the 2020 NFL campaign. He made the Pro Bowl in his first year in New York.
