Pro Bowl corner Stephon Gilmore is off the free-agent market. The 2019’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he reached a deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

Reportedly, Gilmore inked a two-year contract with the Colts. The agreement is worth $23 million and comes with $14 million guaranteed.

Gilmore started the last season with the New England Patriots but he didn’t play a single game in 2021 after his relationship with the franchise started deteriorating. He ended up being traded to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a third-round pick.

In Carolina, Gilmore played a total of eight games and totaled 15 tackles, two interceptions, and two pass deflections. The 31-year-old player previously said that he would like to stay with the Panthers, but the extension talks between the two sides never really took off.

The Colts were happy to take advantage of the lack of interest in Gilmore, believing he still has a lot left in his tank. The veteran should fit well with Indianapolis’ defense, which already has an abundance of star players, including All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard and fellow Pro Bowl corner Kenny Moore.

Stephon Gilmore started his NFL career as Buffalo Bill’s first-round pick in 2012. After five years in Buffalo, which included one Pro Bowl nod, Gilmore left in free agency to sign with the Patriots. In New England, he became one of the best corners in the league. He helped the franchise win a Super Bowl in 2018 while earning two First-team All-Pro honors and two additional Pro Bowls.

Gilmore’s career stats include 427 tackles, 116 pass deflections, 27 interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns.
