The Philadelphia Phillies placed their star catcher, J.T. Realmuto, on a 10-day Injured List on Tuesday. According to the team, Realmuto is dealing with “right knee pain” and is scheduled to have a meniscectomy surgery.

The Phillies expect Realmuto to miss at least a month before returning to action.

Realmuto initially experienced discomfort in his right knee in early May. The MRI test revealed that he was dealing with a small tear in his meniscus, but the three-time All-Star decided to keep playing through the pain. However, the issue worsened over time and led Realmuto and the Phillies to opt for surgery.

Despite dealing with an ailing knee, which caused him to miss three games last month, Realmuto played at a high level in 2024. Before landing on IL, he batted .261 with seven homers and 20 RBIs.

Realmuto’s injury comes at a bad time for the Phillies as they are already down several important players, including All-Star shortstop Trea Turner. However, manager Rob Thomson believes his team has enough depth to weather through before Realmuto comes back.

“I’ve said it all along, this is a resilient club,” said Thomson via MLB.com. “Our front office has done a great job creating depth and getting us depth. Every time somebody goes down, somebody steps up. And I’m expecting the same thing this time.”

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
