Philadelphia 76ers Sign Tobias Harris to 5-Year, $180 Million Extension

After acquiring forward Tobias Harris from the Los Angeles Clippers before last season’s NBA trade deadline, the Sixers saw for half a season just how well their talented acquisition fit into their team.

Now, Philadelphia and Harris have confirmed that they want to keep battling for titles together after agreeing to a monster five-year, $180 million extension that will keep the 26-year-old in Philadelphia through 2024.

Harris had spent the first several years of his young career wandering throughout the league after being drafted in 2011 out of the University of Tennessee. He was drafted by Milwaukee and then had stops in Orlando, Detroit, and with the L.A. Clippers before being dealt to the Sixers at the trade deadline.

The New York native has gradually gotten better throughout his career after starting off as a bench player that saw sporadic action during his first two seasons. 2018-19 was one of his best campaigns, as he averaged 20 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Now, Harris will form part of a 76ers roster that pairs young talent such as Harris, Ben Simmons, and Joel Embiid with quality veteran players like Al Horford.

They’ll be considered a contender for the Eastern Conference crown in the 2019-20 season.
