Inter Miami manager Phil Neville heavily criticized the MLS officials in charge of his team’s game against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday. Neville stated during the post-match press conference that he believed that the referees played a major role in Inter Miami’s 1-0 loss. This is the side’s fifth consecutive defeat

“I’m just going to go full barrel. We got cheated in Portland and we’ve been again tonight,” Neville exclaimed. “I don’t want to sound like a broken record but something is fundamentally wrong with the way referees treat Inter Miami.”

Neville was referring in particular to Gonzalo Higuain’s equalizing goal for Inter Miami which was ruled offside after being reviewed by VAR.

This loss leaves Inter Miami in 11th place on the Eastern Conference table; eight points clear of a playoff spot. Nevertheless, Neville claims to be enjoying his time with Inter Miami, going so far as to call the MLS one of the best leagues in the world.

Neville added that his players were too emotional to talk to the press as a result of what they felt was unjust officiating. He furthermore declared that it is his duty to defend his club when something unjust happens to them.

Inter Miami next face Columbus Crew on Sunday, October 17 at the Lower.com Field.
