Manchester City is expected to give their standout midfielder Phil Foden a new contract in the near future. According to the English media outlet Telegraph, Foden and City are putting the finishing details on what will be a six-year deal.

Foden is already under contract with City until 2024, but the club wants to reward the 21-year-old star for his great performances. This will include an increase in salary that should position the England international as one of the highest-paid young players in soccer.

After Foden inks a new deal, Man City will have the majority of their core locked for the foreseeable future. The Premier League side also handed out new contracts to goalkeeper Ederson, defenders John Stones and Ruben Dias, and midfielder Kevin De Bruyne earlier this year.

Since debuting for City’s first team in 2017-18, Phil Foden has earned manager Pep Guardiola’s trust and became an integral part of the club’s midfield. This was on full display last season when he made 50 appearances in all competitions and contributed with 16 goals and 10 assists. Foden also had a great start in 2021-22, scoring twice and assisting two times in six games.

Foden’s stellar showing with City also earned him a call-up for the England men’s national team, and he already established himself as an important player for Gareth Southgate’s side. He made his senior debut in 2020 and has since made 11 appearances on the international stage while scoring two goals.
