Pele on Brazil’s World Cup Chances: “We Still Don’t Have the Right Team”

Brazil already has a record five World Cup trophies, and they are one of the favorites to win another one in Russia at the upcoming 2018 World Cup. While Brazil is always a favorite in any soccer competition they take part in, this time they also have a great stretch of games to back it up. Under the guidance of current manager Tite, they have only lost one game in the last 20 of them.

But Pele, who led Brazil to World Cup titles in 1958, 1962, 1970, still doesn’t think that his country has what it takes to go all the way to the end this year.

“I have the utmost confidence in Tite’s ability,” – Pele told Reuters. “My worry is about one thing; there are only a few days until the World Cup starts and we still don’t have the right team. Individually all the players are very good. But we’re not a team.

Pele also talked about Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar, who recently recovered from an ankle injury, and said that the 26-year-old can lead Brazil to the World Cup trophy but that he can’t do it alone.

Neymar is, to me, one of the best players in the world,” – said Pele. “Today he is more mature and he has more experience but he isn’t going to win the World Cup on his own. It’s teams that win the World Cup.

Brazil will begin their World Cup campaign in Group E, playing against Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia for a spot in the next round of the competition.
