New England Patriots are looking to trade their young wide receiver, Malcolm Mitchell. The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, who tweeted on Monday that Mitchell isn’t in the Pats’ plans for 2018.

Although undoubtedly talented WR, Mitchell was struggling with injuries for better part of his career. He missed the entire 2017 season due to knee injuries, and according to Pelissero, had another procedure on Monday.

New England Patriots drafted Malcolm Mitchell in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He immediately bagged a starting job alongside veteran Julian Edelman and went on to play 14 games in his rookie season. Despite coming back from a dislocated elbow, suffered in the preseason, he managed to put up solid numbers, catching 32 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns.

Mitchell’s most impressive showing, however, came in the Super Bowl LI. During the Patriots’ epic comeback against Atlanta Falcons, Mitchell managed to catch six passes for 70 yards and helped his team to win a title.

Earlier this year, Malcolm Mitchell said that he plans to be ready for spring practices, but managed to attend the only portion of them. With this new procedure, he will likely be sidelined a few months if not more, so it isn’t a surprise that Pats want to move on from him.
