Although he was named NFL MVP Award for 2017 and got his New England Patriots to another Super Bowl appearance last season, Tom Brady finds himself low on the list of highest paid quarterback in the league. Patriots are well aware of that and recently decided to give Brady an opportunity to earn more money in 2018.

The 41-year-old is expected to earn a $14 million base salary according to his contract, alongside $1 million roster bonus. With these added incentives, he can now get his salary to $20 million. It isn’t strange for Patriots to give their players salary increases in incentives, since tight end Rob Gronkowski could get his salary of $5.25 million to $10.75 million last season on the same way.

Despite getting this potential salary bump, Tom Brady might also sign a new deal with the Patriots in the near future. Brady has been reportedly asking for a new contract, and the organization wouldn’t have anything against of accommodating their franchise’s centerpiece. The problem, however, is determining a value of such a deal.

Less accomplished and still unimproved QBs like Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins or San Francisco 49ers’ Jimmy Garoppolo received deals that will pay them close to $30 million a year. But they are both young and unlike and fit in their team’s long-term plans. On the other hand, no one knows how long will Brady be among the top QBs in the league. It isn’t like he is making the prediction any easier.

In 2017, he had 4,577 yards passing and 32 touchdowns, something that we never saw from a 40-year-old quarterback. Pats will surely hope that he can continue with the same pace; at least for few more years.
