Patrick Mahomes Says the Jets Were Interested in Him Prior to 2017 NFL Draft

It would be pretty hard to imagine quarterback Patrick Mahomes representing any other team than Kansas City Chiefs at this point. But according to Mahomes himself, the prospect of him ending up elsewhere was quite real.

During a chat with reporters on Wednesday, Mahomes said that the New York Jets seemed “pretty interested” in him ahead of the 2017 NFL Draft. One of his pre-draft visits included the Jets, who owned No.6 pick, and he left the meeting feeling confident.

“I thought there was interest there,” said Mahomes, speaking at a press conference ahead of Chiefs’ Week 8 game against the Jets. “Whenever you get on those visits, you know that they’re pretty interested in doing their due diligence.”

For whatever reason, the Jets decided to pass on Mahomes, picking safety Jamal Adams instead. This allowed Kansas City Chiefs to trade up to No.10 and select the Texas Tech signal-caller, and the rest is pretty much history.

While Adams turned out to be a fine player, he definitely isn’t a franchise-altering piece like Patrick Mahomes is. The fact that Adams isn’t even playing for the Jets anymore and that Mahomes already led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl is the perfect indicator.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
