The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached a deal to sign Euro League veteran Kevin Pangos, the player’s agency confirmed on Wednesday. The two-year contract is worth $3.5 million and includes a guaranteed first-year salary of $1.67 million.

Prior to joining the Cavs, Pangos spent the last six years participating in the Euro League, most recently playing for Russian team Zenit Saint Petersburg. It was at this team that the Canadian was named All-EuroLeague, averaging 13.5 points and 6.6 assists in the process.

The signing of Pangos is seen as a crucial part of the Cavaliers’ efforts to boost their backcourt. In addition to Pangos, the franchise signed veteran Ricky Rubio in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The arrival of these players is expected to boost experience on the squad, as well as positive mentors that young talents such as Darius Garland can learn from.

After playing college ball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Pangos joined Spanish Liga ACB side Gran Canaria, after which he played for Lithuanian side Žalgiris Kaunas and Euro League giants FC Barcelona.

Pangos also represents the Canadian national team, helping them to qualify for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
