On Monday, the Green Bay Packers acquired quarterback Malik Willis in a trade with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans will reportedly receive a seventh-round pick in 2025.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Green Bay is bringing in Willis to be the backup for their star signal-caller Jordan Love.
The Packers entered the offseason with 2023’s fifth-round selection Sean Clifford and rookie Michael Pratt, taken in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, as their main options behind Love at the QB position. But it appears that neither quarterback managed to show enough to get the job.
On the other hand, the Titans already had Willis penciled as the third quarterback on their depth chart behind starter Will Levis and veteran Mason Rudolph. Even if he wasn’t traded, the chances were pretty slim that Willis would remain on the team’s roster.
The Titans selected Malik Willis in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft after the Liberty product saw its draft stock surprisingly fall. Ahead of the draft, Willis was considered by some evaluators as the Top 10 prospect.
Willis ended up starting three games in his rookie season but only completed 50.8% of his passes while throwing for 276 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions. He did have one rushing TD and 123 yards on the ground.
Willis saw limited action last season, attempting just five passes across three games.
