Green Bay Packers have recently received some salary cap boost thanks to their veteran guard Lane Taylor. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Taylor agreed to restructure his deal with the Packers, resulting in $3 million additional cap space for Packers.

Taylor enters the final year of his deal and was set to earn around $4.55 million this season. Under the new terms, however, the 30-year-old guard will take home $1.5 million in 2020 alongside a $100K signing bonus.

Lane Taylor probably decided to take less money because his roster spot on Packers was in danger. He is coming off an injury that limited him to just two games last season, while second-year player Elgton Jenkins excelled as his replacement in 2019. By agreeing to a pay cut, Taylor at least secured himself a stable job for this year even if it’s for less money.

Since signing as an undrafted free agent with Packers in 2013, Taylor played 78 games in NFL and made 49 starts. After spending the majority of his early pro career as a right guard, he switched to left guard in 2015 and was franchise’s starter on the position since through 2018 season.
