Orlando Magic made several roster moves on Thursday that they hope will help them make a final push to secure their first playoff appearance in seven years. The team announced that they have released injured guard Isaiah Briscoe in order to make room to sign Michael Carter-Williams.

Briscoe appeared in 39 games in 2018/19 season with Magic, averaging 3.5 points, 2.2 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game. The 22-year-old suffered a meniscus tear in early March and had to undergo arthroscopic surgery which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Carter-Williams signed a contract with the team for the remainder of the season. He previously played on two 10-day contracts with the organization. The 27-year-old appeared in nine games with Orlando during that time and averaged 5.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.00 blocks per game.

After going undrafted in 2017 NBA Draft, Isaiah Briscoe failed to get a contract in NBA, so he ended up going to Estonia where he spent the 2017/18 season. After a solid showing in Europe, he signed a three-year, $3.9 million contract with Magic in the summer of 2018. Still, Orlando won’t have cap obligations towards Briscoe in the future as the two remaining years on his contract are not guaranteed.

Orlando Magic currently find themselves sitting on the eight spot in the Eastern Conference with 39-40 record. This makes them tied with the seven-seeded Brooklyn Nets and a being half-game ahead of the Miami Heat on the 9th.
