The New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham skipped Thursday’s training session to get a second opinion on whether to go ahead with a surgery for his lingering quad injury problem.

The 26-year-old was injured over two weeks ago in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He wasn’t sidelined for long though as he appeared against the Bears and Sunday’s game versus the Washington Redskins.

After Sunday, Beckham’s injury problem worsened and couldn’t practice consistently this week. He was limited to individual drills on Wednesday. Despite the visible signs of the receiver’s injury, the Giants haven’t been vocal about it, with Coach Pat Shurmur only saying he’s just getting it checked out.

“I don’t expect him to be out there (on practice), the coach said. “He’s getting further evaluation today and we’ll find out. We’re just getting it checked out. It doesn’t mean anything.”

Without Odell, the Giants rely on Sterling Shepard, Russell Shepard, Corey Coleman and Bennie Fowler for receiver positions. Cody Latimer is also expected to return to active play to add depth in the same position.

With his great performances this season, the Giants will miss Beckham in his absence. The fact that he is the most paid athlete in the team’s roster also means the team wishes he would be healthy every other time.
