The New York Jets are considered the most troubled and dysfunctional franchise in the NFL. A recent report that they opted to nix a trade for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy due to his low rating in the popular video game “Madden NFL” might just prove that is the case.
As part of an in-depth piece about the franchise published in The Athletic, Zack Rosenblatt, Dianna Russini, and Michael Silver reported that the Jets had discussions with the Denver Broncos in the offseason to acquire Jeudy. The team’s front office believed their offense needed a boost and saw the veteran wide receiver as one of the best options available on the market.
The two sides were reportedly close to reaching a finish line before Jets’ owner Woody Johnson opted to pull the plug on the deal. Sources close to the franchise told The Athletic that Johnson’s decision was prompted by the fact that Jeudy had a low rating in the Madden NFL. At the time, Jeudy had 81 overall rating in the game out of possible 99.
After their trade negotiations with the Jets fell through, the Broncos traded Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-rounder and a sixth-round selection.
Jeudy is currently putting the finishing touches on a career year. In 14 games in 2024, he has 70 catches for 1,052 yards and four touchdowns.
The Jets, on the other hand, are 4-10 and will miss the playoffs for the 14th straight season. This is the longest active postseason drought in major sports.
