The New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to have another go at changing the fortunes of the struggling franchise.
Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Rodgers hinted that he intends to return in the 2025 season despite his time with the Jets not going as planned so far.
“I think so, yeah, “Rodgers, who will turn 41 in December, said when asked whether he wants to play next year.
Rodgers was close to retiring after finishing the 2022 season with the Green Bay Packers, only to decide to stick around and force a trade to the Jets. His first season with the Jets lasted four plays as he suffered a season-ending Achilles tear. In 2024, he was able to stay on the field, but things didn’t look very good.
Despite entering the season as Super Bowl contenders in the eyes of many, the Jets currently find themselves at a 3-7 record and have fired their head coach, Robert Saleh, in the meantime. Rodgers has his fair share of blame for the situation, as his play was largely underwhelming.
Rodgers is completing 62.4% of his passes throughout Week 10 while throwing for 2,258 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He is averaging a career-low 6.4 yards per attempt and is yet to have a game with 300 yards or more passing.
“I’m not playing as well as I would’ve liked to play, for sure,” Rodgers said about his play this season. “The beauty in this game is it’s a team game. The frustrating part is that if you’re a great competitor, you hold yourself to a standard that’s not unrealistic, and I haven’t reached that standard this year.”
