Veteran running back Devonta Freeman is reportedly visiting the New York Giants and is set to work out for the team. At Giants, Freeman would most likely fill in for star back Saquon Barkley, who is out for the season due to ACL injury.

Freeman, who has two Pro Bowl career appearances, recently also worked out for Philadelphia Eagles but didn’t manage to hammer out a deal with the organization. He has been a free agent for the better part of the year, being released by Atlanta Falcons in March.

Devonta Freeman generated a lot of interest this offseason and was even offered a deal by Seattle Seahawks prior to training camp. However, the 28-year-old rejected all offers coming his way as he deemed them unsatisfying.

Over the course of his NFL career, Freeman rushed for 3,972 yards and 32 touchdowns. He was also an important factor in the passing game for the Falcons, managing to catch 257 passes for 2,015 receiving yards and 11 TDs.

If Freeman manages to land a contract with the New York Giants, he would probably emerge as the team’s main back from the bat. The team is painfully thin at the position past Barkley, with Dion Lewis and 2017’s fourth-round pick Wayne Gallman being their only options on the position.
