New York Giants accepted that offensive tackle Ereck Flowers won’t justify the ninth overall pick they spent on him in 2015 and have decided to release the 24-year-old.

Giants made the decision to move on from Flowers last week, but they were trying to find a trade partner. After no one was willing to take on $1.7 million left on his contract for this season, the team decided to release the player outright.

I think it’s just kind of run its course,” – said coach Pat Shurmur of team’s decision. “We appreciate Ereck’s efforts, and we just wish him the best. Sometimes a change of scenery is good for a person, and we’re just hopeful he can go out and continue to have a good career.

NY Giants had big hopes for Ereck Flowers and made him the starter from week one. Flowers, however, never managed to live up to his full potential, struggling with inconsistency. He also had problems with penalties and several confrontations with the coaching staff, which ultimately made the Giants’ decision to part ways with him a lot easier.

Despite his issues in New York, there are reportedly several teams interested in Ereck Flowers’s services, and he has already scheduled multiple workouts. According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Jacksonville Jaguars are the favorites to sign him at the moment.
