The New York Giants have shored up their secondary with a familiar face. The team announced over the weekend that they have brought back veteran corner Adoree’ Jackson on a one-year deal.
Jackson spent the past three years with the Giants, but it appeared that his time with the organization was over after he wasn’t offered a new deal following the 2023 campaign. However, the questions surrounding their secondary prompted the franchise to circle back to the 2017 first-round pick.
In order to make room on the roster for Jackson, the New York team released tight end/fullback Jakob Johnson.
Jackson’s return to the Giants was likely also influenced by his familiarity with the team’s new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. The two spent time together with the Tennessee Titans, where Jackson played his first four years as a pro, and Bowen served as an outside linebackers coach.
Over the past three years, Jackson played 37 games with the Giants and contributed with 176 tackles, 23 passes defended, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown. While he was considered mostly reliable when on the field, the USC product struggled with being available on occasions due to multiple injuries.
It remains to be seen whether Jackson gets the opportunity to start this season. The Giants have 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks slotted as a starter, with former undrafted free agent Nick McCloud and third-year corner Cor’Dale Flott being in the mix to start opposite to him.
