The Denver Nuggets have locked their point guard Jamal Murray to a new contract extension, according to multiple reports.
Murray, who was set to become a free agent next summer, signed a four-year, $208 million deal. It is the max contract Denver could give him and keep Murray with the organization through the 2028-29 NBA season.
Retaining Murray was a major offseason priority for the Nuggets. He is their second-best player and has proved to be a great sidekick to star center Nikola Jokic, with the two developing one of the best pick-and-roll partnerships in the league.
Murray, who helped the Nuggets to an NBA title in 2023, is also considered one of the most underrated players in the league, considering he is yet to receive an All-Star nod.
The only issue for Murray so far has been his availability. He hasn’t played more than 65 games in a regular season since 2018–19 and missed the entire 2021-22 season due to an ACL tear.
Last season, Murray was limited to just 59 regular-season games due to a combination of ankle, knee, and calf injuries. However, he was at the top of his game when on the court, averaging 21.5 points and a career-high 6.5 assists while also adding 4.1 rebounds per game.
