The Denver Nuggets veteran point guard Russell Westbrook reached a major milestone by getting his 200th career triple-double in a 122-110 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Westbrook, who holds the NBA record for most triple-doubles, finished the Grizzlies game with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists. He entered the final two minutes of the contest needing one rebound and got it after Dario Saric missed a three-pointer.
“It’s a blessing,” Westbrook said after the game. “I’m truly grateful to be able to play the game [well enough] to do that. But I’m also appreciative of the ones who came before me.”
Westbrook now has a triple-double with every franchise he has played with. He previously notched triple-doubles with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, and LA Clippers. This makes him the only player with triple-doubles for six or more different franchises.
After an underwhelming 2023-24 season with the Clippers, Westbrook was traded to the Utah Jazz at his own request with the idea of hitting the free agency. The Jazz swiftly waived him, and he ended up signing with the Nuggets.
Westbrook’s time in Denver so far has been mixed at best, although he still has moments when he is a difference-maker on the floor, as the game against the Grizzlies shows. He is averaging 10.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in 13 games this season.
