The NBA unveiled its All-NBA teams earlier this week, with the likes of Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic headlining the selections.
Jokic, Gilgeous-Alexander, and Doncic expectedly made the All-NBA First-Team, considering that they were the three finalists for the NBA MVP Award. Jokic, who ended up taking the MVP award home, received all 99 votes for All-NBA First-Team, as did Gilgeous-Alexander. Doncic, on the other hand, had 98 All-NBA First-Team votes and one All-NBA Second-Team vote.
The trio is joined by the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo and Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum. Interestingly, Gilgeous-Alexander, Doncic, Antetokounmpo, and Tatum were All-NBA First-Team last year as well. The only difference was that Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid, who is ineligible this year for not playing enough games, got the fifth spot instead of Jokic.
The All-NBA Second Team features Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), Kawhi Leonard (LA Clippers) and Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers). This is the first All-NBA selection for Brunson and Edwards.
Finally, the All-NBA Third-Team is highlighted by Lakers’ superstar LeBron James. It was the 20th All-NBA selection for James, who was the oldest player to be featured on the All-NBA team. He was joined by Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, and Suns guard Devin Booker.
