Sandy Alderson is going to have a chance to finish what he started with the New York Mets. The team announced on Wednesday that they have agreed on a contract extension with Alderson, although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

I feel that we have some unfinished business,” – said Alderson in a statement after the extension was announced. “Spring training is around the corner and our quest to return to the postseason will continue.

I’m excited that Sandy will continue to lead the organization,” – said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon.

Sandy Alderson has rolled up his sleeves even before the extension was announced, making some crucial moves for the Mets organization. In October he hired former Cleveland Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway as the team’s manager. Callaway replaced Terry Collins, who took the front – office job with the Mets. Alderson also signed free-agent reliever Anthony Swarzak to a two-year, $14 million contract while exercising 2018 options on infielder Asdrubal Cabrera and reliever Jerry Blevins.

Sandy Alderson’s first MLB job came in 1981 when he became general counsel for the Oakland Athletics and assumed the role of general manager in 1983. During his tenure, the Athletics have won the 1989 World Series and four division titles. In 1998 he left the Athletics to work at the Major League Baseball’s commissioner’s office until 2005 when he began serving as CEO of San Diego Padres.

In 2010 he replaced Omar Minaya as general manager of the Mets. He started the rebuilding process after assuming the GM role and slashed the team’s payroll under $100 million until 2014. In 2015, the Mets made their first World Series appearance since 2000.
