The New Orleans Saints re-signed their special teamer JT Gray to a two-year deal. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal should earn Gray around $4 million, with $2 million coming as a guarantee.

The Saints also re-structured the deal of their defensive tackle David Onyemata, reportedly converting a part of his 2021 salary to a signing bonus. The move resulted in a $4.34 million cap savings for the team.

Gray, who is nominally a safety, joined the Saints in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. He became one of the team’s most reliable players on special teams while also proving useful on the defense.

In his three years with the organization, Gray has 27 tackles, three fumble recoveries, and one pass defended. He earned an All-Pro nod in 2019 after having the NFL-high 16 tackles on special teams.

Onyemata established himself as a valuable starter on the Saints’ defensive line in the last two seasons. He is coming off a career year in which he had 6.5 sacks, 44 tackles, and one interception.

New Orleans has been quite busy lately, trying to keep the majority of last year’s 12-4 team together while also being forced to think of ways to get under the salary cap. They have the worst cap situation in NFL at the moment, being around $65 million over in the projected future.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
