New Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley revealed in an interview her intention to help the Premier League team lure world-class players to the club. Staveley’s company PCP Capital Partners purchased a minority share in the club as part of the £300 million ($408m) takeover whereby the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund acquired the majority share of the club from former owner Mike Ashley.

“We are in the market to compete for world-class players,” Staveley explained. “We have great ambitions—I hope it’s going to be a game-changer for Newcastle United. But if you don’t put the infrastructure around that world-class player and you don’t have a team that can play with him, you’ll get nowhere. The training ground is really awful and needs a huge amount of investment.”

Since news of the financial takeover was first released, several big-name players have been linked with a transfer to the club during the January transfer window. This includes the likes of Ciro Immobile, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mauro Icardi, and Philippe Coutinho.

In addition to improving the training ground and boosting the Magpies’ depth, Staveley also stated that upgrading the St James Park stadium is also a priority, in order to foster an exciting atmosphere for fans and players alike.
