A return to the Premier League seems to be on the cards for former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri. According to multiple reports, the new owners of Everton have Sarri as their top target for the club’s next manager.
Friedkin Group, which also owns Seria A side AS Roma, recently agreed to acquire a controlling stake in Everton. The American consortium, led by brothers Dan and Ryan Friedkin, is looking to make sweeping changes at the club, and a managerial change is among the first orders of business.
Sean Dyche, who has been at the club since January 2023, has underperformed during his time in charge and compiled a 24-19-28 record in his 71 games in charge. The 2024-25 season is proving to be particularly struggling for Dyche, with Everton picking up just one point in their first five games.
If he takes over, Sarri would bring vast experience and an impressive resume to Goodison Park. He previously served as manager of Napoli, Chelsea, and Juventus, winning Serie A in 2019–20 with the latter. His stint with Chelsea lasted only one season, but he managed to finish third in the Premier League standings and win the UEFA Europa League trophy.
It is important to note that Sarri isn’t the only candidate on Friedkin Group’s radar. They are reportedly also considering Graham Porter, another former Chelsea manager, although Sarri is considered a better fit and more attainable option.
