The New England Revolution reportedly acquired right-back Nick Lima in a trade with the Austin FC. Revolution will send $275,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) to Austin in exchange.

According to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert and Paul Tenorio, the trade will become official once the MLS trade window opens on December 11.

Lima is a great pickup for Revolution, filling a position of need. The club’s starting right-back, Brandon Bye, is still out with an ACL injury and is expected to miss the start of the new MLS season.

Austin FC, on the other hand, is currently undergoing a rebuild and is focused on clearing up its roster and turning to younger players. Lima doesn’t fit this vision due to his age (29) and large contract.

Nick Lima made his professional debut with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2017 and played 115 games during his four seasons with the club. He was traded to the Austin FC ahead of the 2021 campaign in exchange for $500,000 in GAM. Lima scored eight goals and dished 20 assists in 195 games in MLS.

Lima also made nine appearances with the United States men’s national team. All of his international games with USMNT came in 2019, and he hasn’t been called up since.
