The NBA appears to be finally ready to look into expanding itself. According to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, the expansion will be addressed during the 2024-25 season.

The expansion of the NBA has been a hot topic for a while. The league largely remained mum about its plans despite reports that Las Vegas and Seattle are being considered as potential homes for new teams. The NBA last expanded in 2004 with the addition of Charlotte Bobcats.

Speaking at NBA’sthe  Board of Governors meeting earlier this week, Silver said that the topic of expansion isn’t something he believes the league is “quite ready” to talk about.

“There was not a lot of discussion in this meeting about expansion, but only largely not for lack of interest, it was that we had said to them that we’re not quite ready,” Silver said.

Silver went on to add that expansion will be addressed “this season” while saying that it might be a while before the process begins.

“It was something that we told our board we plan to address this season, and we’re not quite ready yet. But I think there’s certainly interest in the process, and I think that we’re not there yet in terms of having made any specific decisions about markets or even frankly to expand,” he shared.
