After sitting out the 2020 MLB season, veteran first baseman Ryan Zimmerman recently re-signed with the Washington Nationals to play one more year of baseball. While many believed this could be Zimmerman’s last hoorah, it appears that the 36-year-old player isn’t thinking about retirement just yet.

In a recent video call chat with reporters, Zimmerman said that he could see himself playing past 2021.

“If I can settle into this role and do well this year, by no means does this have to be my last year,” said Zimmerman. “At least that’s the way I’m looking at it.”

According to Zimmerman, he didn’t sign with the Nats to have a farewell tour as he believes he can still contribute to the team.

“This is about coming back because I still think I can play the game at a high level, and I still think I can help the team win,” he added.

Ryan Zimmerman, who is nicknamed Mr. National, spent his entire career with the Washington Nationals. He made his debut for the franchise in 2005 and went on to make 1,689 appearances in the majors.

Zimmerman’s MLB accomplishments include two All-Star appearances, two Silver Slugger Awards, and one Gold Glove nod. He also helped the Nats win their only World Series in 2019.

Zimmerman has a career batting average of .279 with 270 home runs and 1,015 RBIs.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
