Washington Nationals aren’t willing to make the same mistake twice. After losing star right fielder Bryce Harper to free agency this year, Nationals are trying to get a long-term commitment from third baseman Anthony Rendon with an early contract offer.

According to The Washington Post, Nationals have recently offered Rendon a seven-year deal, which would pay him from $210 million to $215 million overall. The 29-year-old All-Star played in 2019 on a one-year deal worth $18.8 million.

Reportedly, despite the generous offer coming his way, Rendon will still explore the free-agent market. He is expected to be one of the most coveted free agents during the winter.

Anthony Rendon has been playing a career season in 2019, having a batting average of .319 to go with 34 home runs and 126 RBIs. These were all career-highs for Rendon, who also earned his first All-Star appearance this year.

Given this kind of performance, Rendon is expected to surpass the eight-year, $260 million contract that five-time All-Star Nolan Arenado received from Colorado Rockies in February.  If Nationals aren’t ready to give him this kind of deal, numerous other teams are including the Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers.
